Cady loses her first tooth!

Cady lost her first tooth last night just before bedtime. She was sooooo excited- she has been asking when her teeth will fall out because she wants some money! So, we put her tooth into an envelope and left it under her pillow for the Tooth Fairy. About three o’clock this morning, I hear, “Mommy! My tooth is gone, but there is no money! I can’t find it!” Now, I knew for a fact that the Tooth Fairy had visited already, so I went to help her search. We found that the money had slipped between the bed and the wall, so Cady was happy. As I was helping her back into bed, she said very sleepily, “Guess what I’m gonna buy with my five dollars, Mommy? A five dollar toy!”

Lost in Translation

Last Monday, the kids and I were outside playing after school. Kevin looked at me, hung his head, and said, “One of my spelling words is a bad word this week.” I knew that this was probably not the case, so I asked him to tell me what the word was. He made me promise that he wouldn’t get into trouble for saying the word out loud! Then he said quietly, “It’s hail.” He didn’t know how to spell the bad version, so he assumed that the one on his spelling word list must be a curse word! We cleared up his confusion as to the meaning of his spelling word, but we did not venture into a detailed explanation of what the bad version meant!
